SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT

When cinema was invented, the first filmmakers pointed cameras at theater stages and filmed plays. It took years before anyone realized the camera could move. That the edit could create meaning. That film wasn't recorded theater — it was something new.

We're at that moment with AI. Most AI filmmaking either obsesses over making AI behave like traditional tools (character consistency! camera control!) or abandons craft entirely for 20 second clips that scream "look what AI can do."

Both are still filming the stage.

kungfupirate is trying not to do that.

THE APPROACH

Most AI filmmaking these days treats the technology like a cheaper crew. Write a script, generate the shots, assemble the edit. Trying to make things with as few humans as possible.

We're more interested in what happens when you don't know what you're making yet. When the AI is there at the moment of conception, not execution. When you start with a feeling and a reference image instead of a screenplay. When the process changes every time because the work demands it.

Seamless transitions between memory, imagination, present, future, dreams. Visual logic that works like actual consciousness. Stories excavated through making, not planned in advance.

No workflow. Only the next thing that might work.

Technical Approach: MidJourney for initial mall key frame → FreePik ecosystem (Seed Dream, Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro) for all location variations maintaining consistent camera angle while transforming environment across time periods → Hailuo Fast for video → Epidemic Sound for lo-fi music track (reactivated old subscription).

Started with dancing robots. Didn't work. Tried GenZ influencer zombies with fungi growing out of them. Also didn't work. Kept failing until we stopped trying to make characters consistent and asked: what if the location is the character?

What we learned: When something feels "too AI," don't fix it. Pivot. The dead ends weren't wasted — they were navigation. Constrain the variable, let time do the work. If you feel something about a single image, stories will come. Feel first, story follows.

Vibe: Lo-fi hip-hop against civilizational collapse. Meditative, not tragic. Everything fades. Everything transforms. The mall doesn't care.
